Vampire Peanut Butter: Healthy Halloween Party Treats for Diabetes, Hypoglycemia, and Sugar Allergies

Healthy Halloween Party Treats for Hypoglycemia and Diabetes and Sugar Allergies

Enjoy Yummy Frankenstein Muffins, Vampire Peanut Butter, and Slime Punch. Try these delicious low-sugar Halloween treats this Halloween. Great if you have hypoglycemia, diabetes, or children sensitive to sugar.

Enjoy your Halloween this year with some wholesome treats that are better for your hypoglycemia, diabetes, or food allergies. These great low sugar and fun Halloween party treat ideas are also great for children that are sensitive to high sugar foods.

Pumpkin Seeds
Save the pumpkin seeds from your carved Halloween pumpkin. Lightly cover them in cinnamon and toast them briefly in the oven for a protein-packed delicious Halloween treat.

Low Sugar Halloween Cookies
Want to enjoy some spooky ghost or vampire cookies but cannot eat the sugary cookies slathered in sugary icing from the local grocery store? If you have time, you can make your own delicious cookies by baking up an oatmeal cookie recipe with half the sugar and whole wheat flower instead of regular flour. Instead of covering the cookies with tons of sugary icing, you can use a little bit of honey and a light dab of orange sprinkles on each cookie. If you do not have time to bake your own cookies, ask the local bakery to make you a batch of low sugar cookies in the shapes of ghastly ghouls and bats.

Frankenstein Muffins
Add green food coloring to your favorite whole wheat muffin recipe. Get ghoulish Halloween decorations from the grocery store to add a spooky Halloween touch. Enjoy your Frankenstein muffins without worrying about your diabetes or hypoglycemia.

Poisoned Apple Slices with Vampire Peanut Butter
Slice delicious green apples onto a party tray. Add red food coloring to a bowl of peanut butter. Offer up the apple slices with the vampire peanut butter for a freaky and yummy treat.

Halloween Finger Pudding
Make up a batch of your favorite low sugar pudding. Buy a bag of eyes and fake fingers from the local dollar store. Mix in the eyeballs and fingers in the pudding. Make sure the pieces are large enough to see and do not present a choking hazard if any small children are present.

Severed Head Salsa
Offer a bowl of mild salsa with whole grain chips. In the middle of the salsa, place a plastic doll head (cleaned well). This is a great Halloween treat if you have hypoglycemia or diabetes.

Worm and Spider Jello
Make a bowl of low sugar Jello. As the Jello sets, add in gummy spiders and worms. Many candy stores also offer low sugar gummy worms. Stay away from the sugary super sour gummy worms, as those often have more sugar than the regular batch.

Halloween Slime Punch
Mix a bowl of Crystal Lite and soda water. Add green food coloring. For added grossness, peel a cup of grapes and add them to the punch bowl for eyeballs.

DIY Frozen Princess Elsa, Avengers and More: Easy Fun Affordable Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids!

Frozen Princess Elsa, Avengers and More: Easy Fun Affordable Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids!

Have a fun time of imagination and excitement by creating your own DIY costumes out of everyday materials.

Children (and adults) love to dress up as their favorite super heroes, animals, and movie stars. You can have fun at Halloween, a birthday party, or even just at home or the classroom by making your own fun costume!

DIY Basic Materials for Dress Up
To avoid extra clutter, the best thing to do is have a special extra large box or chest labeled "dress up". In this box, you can put everything from old clothes and shoes, to hats, fake jewelry, bags of beads, pieces of fabric, belts, ribbons, yarn, string, odds and ends, cardboard tubes and boxes, and anything else you think can make a future costume for your children. You can save money at the next Halloween costume party or school play.

Makeup for Dress Up
If you decide to incorporate makeup into the fun of costume making, be sure to purchase hypoallergenic, washable makeup, usually available around Halloween. You can also make your own messy Halloween face paint with hypoallergenic face cream and food coloring. Just be sure to doublecheck for any allergies or parental restrictions regarding makeup before you begin applying the Halloween face paint.

DIY Royal Princess Elsa or Princess Anna Costume
Making a princess costume with your children requires a few basic elements, such as a princess crown, a wand or scepter, a royal princess robe, and jewelry. You do not have to worry about spending a fortune buying the latest princess costume. Instead make a fun costume by using older fabric (or a colorful shirt with the sleeves cut off bedazzled and dyed quickly with food coloring) for a robe. The children can wear fake jewelry or make their own jewelry using string and buttons or beads.

The royal princess scepter can be made using a painted cardboard tube with a star or heart glue at the top, and decorated with glitter and shiny fabric.

Add extra princess magic by gluing or stapling paper or fabric streamers to the top of the princess scepter. A crown can easily be made with paper or cardboard, and decorated with shiny buttons, sequins, or glitter. For a gown, the costume princess can wrap a large piece of colorful fabric around her as a skirt and use craft glue to glue sequins on the fabric. A king or prince costume can be made with many of the same elements of the princess costume. Your children can dress up at Halloween as royalty without the royal Halloween costume prices!

Becoming a Pirate, Aargh!
Making a pirate costume involves pirate hats, a pirate eye patch, an optional pirate hook, and raggedy pirate clothes. Make a pirate costume eye patch using black paper or fabric and string or yarn. A pirate hook can be made by bending a wire hanger to fit in the child's sleeve (without pinching them). You can use a rubber band to keep the pirate hook in place or the child can hold the end of the pirate hook with a fabric covered or gloved hand. Use a combination of old clothes to create pirate clothes. An easy way to create the pirate look is to take a t-shirt without a label (or turned inside-out), cut several holes in it and paint or marker in dirt and grime. Then have the child wear the shirt and use a piece of yarn or rope for a pirate belt. A paper towel tube can be used as a pirate telescope. The pirate hat can be made out of an old hat or construction paper, or you can opt to just use fabric and handkerchiefs wrapped around the head pirate style. Have the children make their own pirate treasure or use old jewelry for extra fun at Halloween or at home.

Superhero Halloween Costume
Using the same idea as the princess royal robe, use a piece of scrap fabric or an old shirt (with sleeves cut out) as a superhero cape. Masks can be made with fabric or with construction paper and string (decorated with glitter or sequins). The children can take old shirts and glue letters on them for the main body of their costume and use a belt or rope as a superhero utility belt. Create zany superhero accessories for Halloween or dress up fun, like lasers, magic superhero rope, or superhero binoculars using paper towel tubes, yarn, and other materials.

Mami Mozart is Back!

Glad to be Back!
After a long hiatus from Mami Mozart, largely due to a new move to Buffalo, New York,
finishing up my animated opera Libertaria, and just overall busyness that all moms live through, I am happy to be able to return to Mami Mozart and share more fun music ideas, art lesson plans, money-saving tips, and even more!

Quick Halloween Costume Ideas using Kid's PJs!

Halloween is just around the corner!
It's always one of the busiest times of the year. My daughter's birthday is on Halloween, which means the usual fun birthday party preparations. Now that we are in New York, it's great to be near family for the holidays and birthdays. What does she want to be this year? Well, the Incredible Hulk of course! (That's also what she was LAST year!) Hubby made the cake, a Depression era recipe that is great on taste and low on cost! Alice Currah shares the recipe on Savory Sweet Life.

What's great about the recipe is that it doesn't have eggs, milk, or butter! Not only is that a great cake, but it's great for those who have food restrictions, allergies, or just don't eat dairy. Hubby made a chocolate cake with green frosting and the Incredible Hulk on top. Gotta love it!

Well, it's glad to be back. Busy making some vegetarian chili, savory chicken breast, and baked tortilla chips for la familia. So time to go!

Free Halloween Download

Happy Halloween everyone!

Getting ready for my baby girls' birthday bash on Sunday! We are going to have a blast! I wrote a fun and spooky Halloween track in honor of her birthday called "Halloween Eve's Birthday Bash!"

Download it for free here:

I can't believe she is going to be one already! Time flies! I am making her a piñata for her birthday (it's half done right now in the closet). She has gifts coming in from loving grandparents and uncles and aunts. What a fun day it will be! A Halloween Birthday!

Let me know how you like the music track!

Halloween Birthday Coming up!

Halloween iconImage via WikipediaHola Everyone!

It's fall! And although I am a South Florida chica at heart, I am loving the cooler weather and playing outside with my baby girl. Her first birthday is coming up! She is a Halloween baby! We are going to have so much fun next Sunday. I am making a piñata (the one with the strings) and filling it with all kinds of goodies. It is a sports theme birthday (her daddy, after all, is a university coach), and we are having a joint birthday party with my prego pal (who had her baby the day before mine was born!).

So exciting! It is amazing how fast one year goes! I can't believe it. Now she is walking (practically running). She has such a personality. She is loud and stubborn like mommy, strong like daddy, and loves to play drums! They say it goes fast, and it sure does! (Though I was eager for those first few months to pass.)

Well, waiting to go to church this morning. Usually I play the congas at church, but not this morning. Hubby is sleeping (he was nice enough to get her this morning when she woke up at 6:30).

Smiles and sunshine (and cool fall weather) to everyone!

Halloween and Birthdays!

Hello Everyone!

Starting this year, Halloween is going to be a special event: Baby's birthday!

This was me dancing to Thriller last year shortly after the passing of Michael Jackson. I was about six months pregnant with my baby girl. Had a blast making this Michael Jackson Thriller prego tribute!

We are getting ready to celebrate her birthday this Halloween. Daddy is a coach, so we are having a sports themed birthday party at church Halloween afternoon. Everyone will dress up in their favorite sports teams (although one of my friends might dress up as a lacrosse player).

Exciting times! Birthdays and Halloween!

Smiles,

Mamí Mozart
